This site comes to you from the most beautiful place on earth-Alaska! All of us who live here are proud to be Alaskans.  Our unique land, culture and lifestyle sets Alaskans apart from other Americans. 

English, Russian, Y'upik and Inupiat are the primary languages of Alaska. We also have a growing Spanish, Korean, Philippino and Samoan population. These languages are spoken widely in Anchorage.

Alaska Airlines is considered to be the premier airline in the United States with business travelers. Besides operating throughout Alaska, the airline, along with its regional subsidiary, Horizon has an extensive route network in the USA, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada.

In 2009, Alaska celebrated 50 years of American statehood. Here are some fast facts about the 49th State.


How big is Alaska???  Everything may be bigger in Texas, but it's even bigger (and prettier) in Alaska!  If Alaska were placed over the continental United States, It would stretch from South Carolina to California, and from the top of Minnesota all the way down to Texas!

You could fit every state east of the Mississippi River in Alaska.  Over all, Alaska is about 1/5 the size of the Lower 48 United States.

  • 586,412 Square Miles
  • We are more than 2 and a half times the size of Texas (Take that Texas!)
  • We have 29 active volcanoes
  • 33,000 miles of coastline!
  • 1,400 miles North to South 2,700 miles East to West
  • Over 1/2 the world's Glaciers (5% of the state is covered in them!) 
  • Only 55 miles from Russia (We are closer to Russia than to the USA)
  • Home to Mount McKinley. At 20,320 feet, the Tallest Mountain in North America
  • 17 of the 20 tallest mountains in North America
  • World record sized produce, like 100 lb cabbages are grown in the Matsu Valley.
  • Kodiak is the Biggest Island in the USA
  • We have the longest and shortest days.
  • 2nd Highest Tides in the world occur in Turnagain Arm.
  •  It can reach 100F in Alaska's Interior during summer months, and -80F during
  •  winter! That's a difference of 180 degrees!
  • Malaspina Glacier (850 sq. mi.) is bigger than Rhode Island!
  • Alaska is home to 17 National Park systems. Over 54 million acres!
  • The Good Friday Earthquake, 9.2. is the strongest ever recorded in North America. 


PURCHASE OF ALASKA: Alaska was purchased from Russia in 1867 for $7.2 million by then Secretary of State William H. Seward.

Anchorage is almost as close to Tokyo, Japan (3,520 miles) as New York City (3,280 miles)

LONGEST DAY: Barrow, 800 miles south of the North Pole, has the longest and shortest day of the year.. When the sun rises on May 10th, it don't set for nearly 3 months. When it sets on November 18th, Barrow residents do not see the sun again for nearly two months. The longest day in Anchorage is about 20 hours and the shortest is about 4.5 hours.
 
TIDES: Turnagain Arm, near Anchorage, has tides as much as 30 feet. Tidal bores occur

BARROW
- located on the Beaufort Sea, is the northernmost city in the United States, and has 82 days between May and August when the sun never drops below the horizon.

PRUDHOE BAY- is the origination of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. The insulated pipeline pumps about 1.2 million barrels of oil a day from the North Slope fields to Valdez.


KOTZEBUE - on the northwest coast, lies just above the Arctic Circle, as does nearly one-third of Alaska.

Bethel - in the largest community in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, most of the population is Yup'ik Eskimos. It is the regions commercial and air transportation hub. The Kuskokwim 300, the world's premier middle-distance sled dog race, begins and ends here.

Ketchikan

DILLINGHAM - began life as a Russian trading center in 1818. Located on Bristol Bay, it is now a commercial and sport fishing center and the gateway to Wood-Tikchik State Park. At 1.6 million acres, it is the largest state park in the nation.

KING SALMON - on the Alaska Peninsula, is a fishing hub and gateway to Katmai National Park, a 4-million-arce protected area since 1918. Nearby Bristol Bay is home to the world's largest red salmon fishery.

VALDEZ - is the southern terminus for the 800-mile Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and the northernmost ice-free port in the Western Hemisphere.

ANCHORAGE - is Alaska's largest city, located on Cook Inlet which has the second-highest tidal range in the country. Thanks to long daylight hours, the nearby Matanuska Valley raises giant vegetables, such as cabbages the size of basketballs.

Those aren't igloos on the skyline!  About 2/3 of the population of Alaska calls Anchorage home.

The longest day in Anchorage is about 20 hours and the shortest is about 4.5 hours.

Anchorage's geographical location makes it the "Air Crossroads of the World", due to it's closer proximity to nearly all of the major cities of North America, The Far East, and Europe(direct over the North Pole).

Anchorage International Airport is the 3rd busiest airport in the world in terms of cargo movement. Fed Ex, UPS, Japan Air Lines, Korean Air, Cathay Pacific, China Air, and at least a dozon other of the world's major airlines have major cargo hubs at Anchorage. Anchorage may be a big city, but it is still in the heart of the Last Frontier!  Moose, Bears, Foxes, Eagles and various other Alaskan wildlife wander through our city at any given time.  It is common for rush hour traffic to come to a standstill as a Moose wanders across the road!


JUNEAU: Alaska's Capital City

Juneau is the only american capital that is not accessable by North America's extensive road system.  Juneau can only be reached by Air or The Alaska Marine Highway (The state's public ferry system).

Juneau is also one of the world's most popular cruise destinations, due to its immense natural beauty.  It is also the commercial hub for Southeast Alaska, which is also off of the road system.      http://www.juneau.com/

FAIRBANKS- has the widest temperature spread of any city on earth, from -66 to 99 degree F.  Fairbanks was Alaska's 2nd largest city, until the Matsu Valley experienced explosive growth towards the end of the 20th Century, and Wasilla surpassed Fairbanks to take the number 2 spot.
