It is said that Jennifer Lopez has done for the rear end what Pamela Anderson has done for the front end. Over the last few years the buttocks and abdomen have received more press coverage than ever before.

Brazilian Butt-Lift

The brazilian butt lift is a type of butt augmentation procedure which results in a youthful, prominent, perky buttocks and a more sensual body profile. This procedure is performed on adults of all ages.

Your doctor removes fat from selected areas of your body, purifies the fat, then reinjects selected donor fat cells into your buttocks. The process of fat reinjection involves scores or hundreds of injections.

The procedure is designed to fill the upper quadrant of the buttocks so that the butt appears lifted, perky, and more feminine. The resulting effect is that the buttocks are rounder and more shapely.

Correct liposuction techniques, donor fat processing, and microinjection methods are essential to achieving a permanent, natural result.

How is the Brazilian butt lift performed?

The Brazilian butt lift involves three techniques: liposelection of two or more areas, donor fat processing, and microinjection of the donor fat into the buttocks.

The buttock is first contoured by performing liposelection, a type of liposuction, which is performed in the stomach and areas around the buttocks. Common areas to liposuction include the back- directly above the butt, the stomach, and the thighs.

After liposuction, the fat is purified so that the best donor fat cells will be injected back into the buttocks for augmentation. The fat which has been suctioned is processed to isolate viable fat cells. Because the fat is purified to remove blood and calcification, only a fraction of the donor fat removed is able to be re-injected to the buttocks. In order to get enough qualified fat, donor fat must be removed from at least two areas of the body.

The processed fat is then placed or transferred to the buttocks with special cannulas. This process is referred to as ‘microinjection’. Microinjection enables the fat cells to receive adequate blood supply so that they can survive once inside the buttocks tissue. This technique results in the highest permanent absorption rate of the fat and is the best way to achieve a permanent result.

The doctor microinjects small amounts of purified donor fat into different areas and depths of the buttocks. The procedure involves scores or hundreds of micro fat injections. Correct injection methods are key to achieving a long lasting, uniform, smooth, and natural appearance to the buttocks.

An additional benefit of the Brazilian butt lift is that you not only get a shapelier buttock, but the area to liposuction is now much leaner, giving your profile a more attractive look

Are the liposuction techniques used in this procedure different than regular liposuction?

Yes, the fat is harvested using specialized liposuction techniques called Lipo-Selection. A low pressure aspiration system is used to minimize damage to fat cells as they are being extracted. Regular liposuction traumatizes fat cells too much. Only the correct type of liposuction will yield fat cells that will result in a permanent lifetime result.

How long do the fat injections last?

If the donor fat is properly harvested and processed, a large percentage of fat cells will survive the crucial period until they receive blood supply. Once this happens these fat cells remain for the patient’s lifetime. At about a month after surgery, the improvement you see will be long term.

Implants vs. Brazilian Lift: Which is right for me?

With buttock implant surgery, the implant is rounded, anatomically similar to a teardrop or oval, and shaped like an egg. The implants are placed systematically between layers of muscle, with the only possible complication having to do with the incision. Most of the time, with a silicon implant, the incision will open and have to be re-sutured. In some cases this will lead to the patient having to spend an additional 2 weeks sleeping on their stomach, this is a rare occurrance.

A worst case scenario is when the suture breaks open wide enough to reveal the implant. This can be very painful and cause a serious infection. If a complication such as this occurs, the implant must be removed and left out for a minimum of 3 months and only then can it be re-inserted.

The use of fat grafting techniques has revolutionized the butt augmentation arena. In relation to implants, it is said to be safer and requires less downtime, in addition to surgery time. In using the grafting technique, the patient not only is able to use their own fat cells from their own body, but they in turn are able to have a modified liposuction. Fat is usually grafted from the stomach or the hips, and is inserted into the body through two small incisions, carefully layering in tunnels in the buttocks. In using your bodies own cells, in many cases the body absorbs a significant amount of the fat, and a second round of incisions may have to be made to achieve the desired look.

Downtime is minimal, the minor complication associated with the procedure is having to have it repeated twice due to fat absorption the first time around.

Other complications associated with the silicon implants, such as bleeding, scarring and infection are very rare with the Brazilian procedure. The only time this procedure is not recommended is when there is not an abundance of fat in the body to spare. Slender women, many times must resort to implants, because their bodies simply do not have the fat cells needed to create the look they desire naturally.

Once healed, the fat grafting procedures creates a very natural look and feel. No one will ever be able to point out where the procedure happened, and how- it will appear to be all by Mother Nature.

With silicon implants, it is difficult to assess how it will appear, the touch however, will be harder, and in some cases the appearance may seem a bit unnatural. Patients will be back to work rather quickly, and the ability to sit and lay, although not for extended amounts of time, is a positive aspect to the grafting technique.

With the development of such techniques as fat grafting for buttock augmentation, it is easy to see why women are making the choices they do- beauty is said to be in the balance and symmetry of the lines- and we all have the power to perfect our balance.

“BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT” LEAVES BUTTOCK IMPLANTS BEHIND IN POPULARITY, AMONG MALE-TO-FEMALE TRANSGENDERS, SAYS DR. SHERMAN LEIS, PROMINENT TRANSGENDER SURGEON.
(Bala Cynwyd, PA USA)   It is an anatomical fact that most males have narrower, less voluptuous hips and buttocks than do females.  As part of the sexual reassignment process from male to female, it is necessary to enhance the male buttocks to become more like the archetypical female form.  There are a number of ways an aesthetic surgeon can add curves to the buttocks.  At one time, buttock implant was the leading procedure for enhancing the buttocks.  Today, the most requested buttock augmentation procedure for transitioning males is referred to as the “Brazilian Butt Lift”.  Biologic natural females also prefer this type of procedure.  Acclaimed transgender surgeon, Dr. Sherman Leis, is one of the more experienced surgeons performing this surgery in North America.

Initially popularized by female Hollywood celebrities desirous of adding tone, projection, and girth to the buttocks, the Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure that has rapidly become the leading buttock enhancement surgery in the transgender community.  Some of the advantages of the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure, leading to its growth in popularity, are that it is:
- less complicated surgery to perform,

- requires shorter recovery time,

- usually provides more natural-looking attractive results.

Of course, a requirement is that the individual has sufficient body fat to use for transplantation to the buttocks.

According to Dr. Leis, “Unlike implants which are inserted into the buttock area, the Brazilian Butt Lift actually injects the patient’s own fat into the buttocks, in a far less invasive procedure.  These days, only if the patient has exceptionally low body fat, would we recommend the implant method.  One reason that The Brazilian Butt Lift works so well is because of technological advances in fat distribution that go far beyond well-known procedures like liposuction.  With the Brazilian Butt Lift, the patient’s fat is obtained, purified, and transplanted into position.  Doctors can better control the outcome by varying the depths of the sculpting injections.  The results are typically very natural looking and realistic.”
